Founded in 2020, Odia is the meeting of Ekaterina Balnikov and Luc Julia around a common passion: the press and access to information in general.
Ekaterina had the idea of a platform that would transform the articles contained in a newspaper into audio files, similar to radio podcasts. Indeed, it is sometimes difficult to free up time during the day to read your newspaper. Why not listen to it?
However, it was after reading an article dedicated to Luc Julia, highlighting his expertise in Artificial Intelligence and voice synthesis, that she presented her project to him. Delighted to see one of his old ideas come back into the news, he got involved. Indeed, in 2002, while he was in the United States, he had already created a program that read French newspapers to him while he was in his car, in the long Californian traffic jams…
Today, it is this passion, this joint vision and this shared expertise that continue to guide Odia in its mission to reinvent the way we consume information, by letting the voice transmit the richness of words.
LUC JULIA
French engineer and researcher passionate about artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, my career has been marked by a series of innovative projects in the field of computer science, robotics and AI.
I have had the chance to work for some of the most innovative companies in the sector, including Apple, where I co-created Siri, the iconic voice assistant. I have also been involved in research and development initiatives at Samsung and SRI International. I have always been convinced that AI has the potential to solve complex problems and transform our daily lives.
Member of the French Academy of Technologies, I am the author of the book “Artificial intelligence does not exist”.
EKATERINA BALNIKOV
I am a lawyer by training, I worked for 12 years in communications. After 4 years within the Pilipili group (subsidiary of TF1 and Artemis Media), I joined Geolid, then leader in digital communications, as Regional Director and national training referent. I also chair the France AVC association for the Occitanie region.
PHILIPPE JANNET
After many years spent in the world of the press in key positions (ex-CEO Le Monde.fr, founder and ex-DG Les Echos.fr), I am now a coach for executives and organizations and a business creator: I am co-founder of Yaniro, dedicated to coaching startups and startuppers.
MATHIEU CAPCARRERE
With a financial background focused on innovation management (DESS in Innovation Management at IAE Toulouse), I founded and managed IINNOtech for 7 years – a company specializing in multimedia embedded systems. I was also CFO of Airborne Systems and management controller in the media sector (M6, Sony Music & Milan Presse).
